Glenn Miller, organ

Acclaimed organist and basso profundo Glenn Miller returns to Oklahoma City for an exciting concert! The program will include works for organ by Franck and Vierne, among others. Glenn will also showcase his signature low bass voice in several songs, including the world premiere of pieces composed especially for him!

Glenn Miller has had a wide-ranging career as a Minister of Music, organist, choral conductor, and professional choral singer.

For twenty-three years he served as Director of Music and Organist at Kirk in the Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he developed and directed its nationally recognized music ministry which included an extensive choir program.  Most recently he served as artist-in-residence at Trinity Cathedral, Portland, Oregon.  During his graduate school years (1985-88) he served on the music staff of First Presbyterian Church, Oklahoma City, first as music intern under Drs. John and Helen Kemp, and, following their retirement, as interim Director of Music.  John and Helen were his professors and mentors during his undergraduate years at Westminster Choir College, and they, as they did with so many of their students, guided his career as a church musician across decades.  He shared a close relationship with them through their final years and served as organist for their memorial services.

In addition to his activities as a church musician he is well known for his unique basso profundo/oktavist voice, performing, touring, and recording regularly internationally with many professional ensembles including the Robert Shaw Festival Singers, Conspirare (Austin TX), Clarion (NYC), Cappella Romana (Portland), the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, the Choir of St Thomas Church Fifth Avenue (NYC), Audivi (Michigan), the Yale Choral Artists and Schola Cantorum (New Haven CT), the St Tikhon’s Chamber Choir (PA), the PaTRAM Choir (various locations through the USA and Jerusalem), the Choir of St Paul’s Cathedral (London, England), and Skylark (Boston).  His voice is especially at home in music of the Russian Orthodox tradition as music of this tradition relies heavily on low bass voices.  His first connection with this music was with Robert Shaw and the Robert Shaw Festival Singers, performing and recording the “All Night Vigil” by Sergei Rachmaninov in 1988.  This work has been the hallmark of his career, and he has performed it innumerable times throughout the United States and has made a total of five professional recordings.
